My kids played some internet games on my pc, now, whenever I go into IE7 i
get unwanted new internet windows popping up at various times with 'ad by
gamevance' in the lower right corner. Norton, or several other scanners have
not solved the problem, no other pop ups get past the blockers, so how do I
eradicate this,

By eradicating the adware on your computer.
You can show your computer to a professional (make the kids pay for it)
or you can try this: HijackThis is a program that searches your computer
for signs of infection. The program produces a detailed log that you can
submit to volunteer experts free of charge for analysis. More
information here:

You can post your HiJack This logs in several forums (NOT here), such as

Do a _thorough_ check for malware, following all of the steps at one of
these Web pages.
Help with malware:

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.
