Nothing in Temporary Internet Files

Hi!

I've just checked in

C:\Users\Myusername\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files

and there is almost nothing.
I see only around 20 files concerning cookies.

I expected to see all the files concerning Web sites I browsed (gif, html,
ico,
flash, java, . . .).

In Temporary Internet Files and History Settings,
Check for newer versions of stores pages is set to Automatically.
And Disk space to use is set to 50 MB.
And Days to keep pages in history is set to 20.

I'm running Vista Ultimate SP1 64-bits with IE7 64-bits.
I have the same problem with IE7 32-bits.

So my question is :

why is there almost nothing in Temporary Internet Files?

Thanks a lot!

How did you get there?

Unless you got there via the TIF Viewer you may have the wrong location.
E.g.  in  IE  press  Alt-T,O,Alt-S,V

Now what do you see?

Hi Robert!

I got there exactly as you wrote :  in  IE  press  Alt-T,O,Alt-S,V
And I see only around 20 files concerning cookies.

Do you have any suggestion?

Thanks!

Hi!

I unchecked the "Enable Protected mode" option on the Security tab of
Internet options.

Now, I see all the files.

So, when the "Enable Protected mode" option is checked,
it seems IE7 does not cache Web pages.

Bye!

Are they still in the same location?   I have seen indications that
Vista may have more than one location for the TIF but I don't use
it myself.

Ok.   Thanks for the feedback.

BTW I usually cross-post Vista questions to a Vista-specific newsgroup
but neglected to do so this time.   Perhaps someone who has that OS
will comment further anyway.

E.g.  the TIF has always been a wrapper for a hidden implementation
involving other subdirectories.   So, it may be that in one mode you see
some of them and in another mode you see some more.

In order to test your hypothesis about whether the files are actually
cached or not you could find a page which caches in one mode
(e.g. you can open it again when IE  is in a  Working Offline  state)
and then retest it the same way in the other mode (regardless of whether
the TIF Viewer actually shows you the same files).   I.e., if the page can be
rendered offline the files which it is constructed from must be cached
*somewhere*.

HTH

Robert
