open or save or e-mail messages issues ????

I get e-mails with attatchments from friends when I try to open them I get a
message that says " Do you want to OPEN or SAVE" I want to OPEN, but when I
click OPEN it goes to SAVE AS... in My Documents, and I can't open it . I
tried going to My Docyments and tried to OPEN it there BUT it STILL goes to
SAVE AS, it never used to do that...UGHHHHH!!!! Also I have an issuse that
sometimes when I have written a letter, etc. and I go in later to EDIT it,
it won't let me, it says READ ONLY, I didn't SAVE it as READ ONLY.
HOW DO I FIX THESE PROBLEMS THAT ARE DRIVING ME NUTSSSS.....

Windows version? IE version? Are you access your mail in a Mail Client
(e.g., Outlook; Outlook Express; ThunderBird; Windows Mail; Windows Live
Mail)?

It would be easier to help if you didn't keep the file extension secret.
It might also help to know the IE version you're reading the email with and
what Windows version.
