When my Internet Explorer pops up and loads my homepage, or any other page,
it blocks it.

I get a circle with the colors of microsoft, and an "Internet Explorer
Warning- visiting this web site may harm your computer!

"Most likely causes:
1. The website contains exploits that can launch a malicious code on your
computer.
2. Suspicious network activity detected
3. There might be an active spyware running on your computer"

"What can you try:
Activate XP antivirus fro secure Internet surfing (Reccommended)
Check your computer for viruses and malware.
More info."
when i click all of these options, it sends me to an ad asking me to buy the
XP antivirus 2008 software.
not only that, it's not a website. the address is about:blank.

I have no other option, but to buy it.
I don't want to.
Is  this possibly a virus? If so, I need help getting rid of it.
I have Spy Sweeper and it's swept my computer clean.
My Norton Antivirus is scanning my computer and hasn't found anything.

what can i do?

Do a Google search on the following text;

XP antivirus 2008 software

Read the results regarding the above product:  It is a known rogue security
software.

Since I have never had to deal with this situation, the following link will
provide removal instructions;
(if it has already been installed)

http://www.xp-antivirus-removal.com.removal-instructions.com/removeXPAntivirus.html

If it has not been installed, read the entries from the search and determine
the best solution for your situation.

The machine is already infected!  Do NOT click on any of those links!

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Dear deenguyen09,

Had the same problem!  Very annoying!  Solved entire issue by purchasing
SpyHunter for approx. $30.00  Not had a problem since.  This software
detected many problems and fixed them.  You can run the program scan for free
and you will see the problems infecting your computer!

Hope this helps.  Jeff

I would very much doubt that the fairly ineffective SpyHunter fully resolved
the problem, if indeed it was identical to the OPs.

Judging from similar posts here in the past month or so, the behavior may be
due to a Vundo-ZLOB-SDBot infection, all of which is protected by a rootkit.
No utility or combinaton of utilities can clean this up.
