Hello All,

I know that there are many articles about this topic out there.
Unfortunatelly, none of them solves my problem.

I recently installed IE7 in my windows XP SP2 machine but I cannot
make it work. It exits immediatelly as I start the application. It
just "flickers" in the screen and disapears.

I tried the following to no avail:
- Disable all the plugins/add-ons
- Start without add-ons (via all programs> Accessries>System Tools>IE7
no add ons
- re-register the IEProxy.dll with regsvr32
- starting it via the command line as "iexplore about:blank"

Every time, the bahavior is the same as explained before. No error
message dialog, no message in the event viewer...

As uinstall IE7, therefore reverting it back to IE6, the browse works
fine. This is why I have postponed the upgrade for sucha a long time.

Any information and help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards
CD

Before installing IE 7 you need to carefully follow the pre-installation
preparation described here:
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install.

Download the IE 7 installer directly from Microsoft and install from
your hard disk:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx

Uninstall IE 7 (which returns you to IE 6) by following these directions:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927177
...and...
http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html

and then re-install IE 7 following the directions above.

You may have a horked (dirty; bad; flawed) install of IE7.  I suggest that
you...

1. Uninstall IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6) EXACTLY per
http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html [Only use the Command
%windir%\ie7\spuninst\spuninst.exe if you cannot uninstall via Add/Remove
Programs!]

2a. Uninstall all toolbars and third-party Windows Themes (including Window
Blinds).

2b. Disable all Norton Add-ons, if applicable.

3. Reinstall IE7 EXACTLY per
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install <= Steps #1-8, #10 &
#11; take note of #12, then STOP!

NB: Use http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/default.mspx as the
installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update.

Or Direct Download link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=9ae91ebe-3385-447c-8a30
-081805b2f90b

Tip: Save the installer to your desktop, do not Run it.

4. IMMEDIATELY go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and install any
critical updates offered.  If a "Root Certificates" update is listed in the
Optional category, you might install it, too, to take full advantage of
IE7's additional security.

They ONLY work in WinXP.

Disregard the reference to Vista in the URL www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html,
etc.
