I installed a 3rd party software for music downloads and it changed a setting
on Internet Explorer.

Now when I mistype a web page address, intead of the Windows Live search
page I get an Earthlink search page.

Resetting my internet options did not solve this. I think a registry entry
was changed on the install.

I have uninstalled the software in question and it did not undo the IE search.

IE version?
Windows version and Service Pack level?

It's IE 7.0.5730.11 and that's so not the problem. It's a setting. A
configuration issue. Since I have done the IE reset, it's most likely a
registry configuration entry. I just need to know which one. The 3rd party
software vendor has washed their hands of the issue by saying, talk to IE
about it.

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author.  See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything.  Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along.  Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

Thanks for the malware tip. I'll check that out. But it's still a
configuration of some sort. I'd love to attach the page in question. I just
need to know wher3e to find it. Please address this as a configuration issue
unless there are ways to corrupt IE. And why Earthlink. The 3rd party
software in question is the music player form Helio, a cell phone provider. I
highly doubt they put malware into their products.

Even after remove=ing any/all malware, the page will still go to Earthlink
because something is set to direct it to there.
