Have I got the latest build of IE7?

Hi

I have IE 7.0.5730.11IC. Is this the latest build? I can't find anywhere on
the MS website that tells me. When I go to Windows Update it just offers
options for Windows and Office updates, not for IE. Yet it's a long time
since I installed IE7, and I've never updated it, so I would find it very
surprising if I have the latest build. The reason it's important is that a
web application I'm developing displays incorrectly in IE7 (but correctly in
all other browsers) but it displays correctly in IE7 on the software
vendors' machines, so I want to eliminate the possibility that the problem
is due to my having an out of date build.

The software vendor's build is 7.00.5730.1100, apparently, and it is far
from obvious from the numbering whether their build is more or less recent
that mine - good old Microsoft, they don't like to make anything
straightforward, do they!

You can type into google IE8! It's the newest "BETA" version! Also you can go
into the "tools" tab and click on " Internet Options" then go to the
"Advanced" tab look under "Browsing" and check the box for "Automatically
check for Internet Explorer updates". Hope this helps!

Hi lividjak

No it's only IE7 I'm interested in.

I've just tried doing that but so far nothing has happened - is there any
way of forcing it to check now?

Sorry that wasn't any help! Have you tried going to microsoft.com and have
the site check for updates? Also you can go into your control panel and look
in Security Center and make sure your automatic updates are turned on!

I don't want automatic Windows updates, I only want to update IE7, if there
is an update, not Windows or Office - and I don't even know how to check
whether I have the latest build of IE7.

As I said in my original post, when I go to Windows Update on the Microsoft
website, it only offers options for Windows and Office updates, not for IE.
I can't find anywhere on the Microsoft website that lets you check whether
your IE build is up to date.

In IE do Help-About. What version does it say?

See my original post, as stated there it's IE 7.0.5730.11IC

If Microsoft/Windows Update doesn't offer you an update, your copy of
Internet Explorer is up to date. It's that simple. Why are you making
yourself crazy?

Hi Leonard

Because my build is  IE 7.0.5730.11IC, whereas the build that the software
vendor of the application I'm developing is 7.00.5730.1100, I see a bug in
the application I'm developing in IE7, but on my software vendor's machines
the bug does not appear - and the only difference in our configurations
seems to be that we are using different builds of IE7 from each other. It's
not at all obvious from the build numbers which is the most recent build,
but as I installed my build over a year ago and have never updated it, I had
suspected that theirs was likely to be more recent than mine. Can you or
anyone confirm that my build number IE 7.0.5730.11IC is definitely more
recent than their build number 7.00.5730.1100?

No.
Those are the same build.
If you uninstall IE7 and reinstall it you'll probably get 7.0.5730.13 (IC or
00).  No difference I can detect.

Could you do a web search? It took me less than a minute to find the
information:

"How to determine which version of Internet Explorer is installed"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q164539/

IC = Internet Content Provider, i.e., modified by a third party.

A better comparison would be *all* of IE, not just the starting stub program.
E.g.  Run...  (press Win-R and enter:)

   msinfo32.exe  /category  IEFileVersions

Make sure the reports are in File order (e.g. click on that heading)
and save both (using the Edit menu and new Notepad windows.)
Take a diff  of them (e.g. windiff or just fc).   Now would you say the only
difference in your configurations is that yours was created as an IEAK
package?   <eg>

But that's not all that could be causing different symptoms anyway.
E.g. what about your scripting support or add-ons?   Are you sure that
all those modules are identical too?   ; )

It may help if you gave us your problem symptoms instead of asking
questions to support your guesses about what is causing them...   ; }

But I don't know how one could go about getting mine to be the same as
theirs if there was a difference in one or more of those files.

I'd have thought that scripting support shouldn't affect this app as it's
pure css, and contains no script. Not sure what add-ons could cause a pure
css app to display incorrectly on one machine and correctly on another. It's
very weird.
