Hi,
Which version of Windows?
Which version of Internet Explorer?
Do the troublesome pages have anything in common such as Flash, Java
applets, JavaScript?
Did you install or update a third-party program (security, privacy, etc.)
just before the problems started?
Assuming IE6/XP SP2 (or SP3) or IE7...
1. You may have an incompatible browser add-on.
See: http://www.enhanceie.com/ie/troubleshoot.asp
for troubleshooting information.

2. With the warning that a reset will delete autocomplete data, such as
passwords and you will have to reinstall browser add-ons, work through this

3. This may be a malware problem- adware, spyware, hijacker, trojan, etc.

Thank you for the response and questions.
I have XP prof. SP2. IE 7.0.5730.11
cannot find anything in common because sometimes it happens as i open it;
and sometimes it happens as i hit reply to a webmail message; and sometimes
it happens if on the site i am visiting I open a new window from a link on
the page.
I am conservative in what I load and had not done anything new for a while
OTHER than the MS Windows updates recently. So nothing else prior to the
problem
I have never messed with add-ons one way or the other. I leave that well
alone. but I am happy to try your suggestions. This window has stayed open
long enough to write this so i will stop for now and try the suggestion.
many thanks
