I recently downloaded avg 8 free antivirus software and internet explorer
would not operate when it was done. Tried a number of times to sort out
problem, turned off windows firewall but it made no difference. I had norton
security but this subscription ran out recently and all norton has now been
uninstalled.
Has anyone got a solution to this problem.

Before you installed AVG (Free?) v8.0, did you also...
1. Uninstall LiveUpdate and any/all Norton Add-ons via Add/Remove Programs;
and then...
2. Download/run the Norton Removal Tool?

All I can think of is to try reinstalling IE7 from the MS downloads page. Be
sure to disable AVG Resident Shield while reinstalling IE7 and any security
updates from Auto Updates if enabled. (Otherwise go to MS Update after
reinstalling).

I am using AVG 8 Free Edition and IE7 myself (build 13) and I still have NIS
2004 installed with Auto-protect disabled and Personal Firewall disabled. I
am using Windows XP SP3 Firewall. Your suggestion about the Norton
uninstallation tool is a very good one.

It is not a good idea to have two (2) AV apps installed, even if one doesn't
fully load at boot...especially if one of the apps is a Norton app.
