I have installed internet explorer 7 and sp3. when I open internet explorer
it never loads the progress bar just gets half way to full. I have emptied
caches, opened withhout add ons, but it still does not work. The problem
seems to have started after my ip adress was changed through my wireless
router(belkin). I am able to use my aol browser with no problems. I have
windows xp home, compaq presario laptop, intel celeron. Any advice on how to
get internet explorer working again would be greatly appreciated. thank you
Which was installed first, IE7 or WinXP SP3?
=> Does this behavior persist if you start IE7 in No Add-ons mode? To start
IE7 in No Add-ons mode:
1. Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without Add-ons;
or
2. Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer
(No add-ons).

I installed IE7 first. The problem persists, in no add-on mode, and after I
reset IE7. Could this be a proxy issue? IP Issue? As I had mentioned in my
post IE has worked in the past until my IP adress was changed, I uninstalled
IE7 and then reinstalled it. Then I installed SP3 and the problem still
persists.

Changing your IP address should not cause IE not to load. Does IE load if
you reset your home page to Blank (via Control Panel | Internet Options)?
If you reboot into Safe Mode (with or without networking)?
Did the behavior persist after you'd reinstalled IE7 but before you'd
installed WinXP SP3?
What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)? Were any of these applications running in the background when you
(re)installed IE7? ...when you installed SP3?
What third-party toolbars are installed (e.g., Google; Yahoo; Windows Live;
Skype; Roboform)?
Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | make sure Show Updates is check |
scroll down and tell me what was the last security update for IE ["Security
Update for Windows Internet Explorer 7 (KB999999)"] installed and when was
it installed?
