For whatever reason a Microsoft icon and a marking "~" is now showing on my
Desktop. Properties only indicate that it's "C:\Windows\Desktop 250 kb
(210,735B) and 212,992 B used and marks "Archive".  Can anyone tell me why
this has just appeared and should I delete it.  Seems that this happened
some time ago and I just deleted it but it's back again.

It's a backup of your Address Book.  A bug in a recent update is causing it
to appear like that instead of as *.wa~
