I have been trying to figure out how to back up my OE mail folders.  I
have thousands I need to keep.  When I search my computer for .mbx
files, I come up empty.  I have done a hand search
windows/applicationdata....... and don't have an application data file
in WINDOWS.  This is not the first time I have tried all this.  I have
also gone the compact route and after I compact, I cannot find the .dbx
files either.  Never could.  I search my entire system.

Any help would be appriciated.

Thanks!
Valerie

MBX files are associated only with OE4. Since you post to an OE5 newsgroup,
let's assume you're asking about OE5.  OE5/6 both use DBX files to contain
stored messages.  To read about backup/restore operations for that, review
the info at this link:

Hello-  I have 6.0 and I  tried to search for dbx files and failed at
that as well.  I went to the link and are you suggesting that I
download the free utility?  Thanks so much for your help.

Depending on your operating system, you may have to enable "show hidden
files and folders" via control panel>folder options>view before you can
search for the dbx folders.

Hello Kath-

Thanks for that suggestion but I got nowhere!  I am using XP Pro.  This
is getting pretty frustrating!

Did you enable "show hidden files and folders"?
How are you doing the search? Start>search>for files and folders>all
files and folders>*.dbx
To see the full path to your message store go to (in OE)
Tools>Options>Maintenance>Store Folder. Then use the link Jim gave to
back up your folders. Tom's page starts with a link to a (free) program
that will do the backup automatically for you.
