I'd like the preview pane to merely show the message without any rendering
whatsoever - gory html tags and all, but there doesn't seem to be anyway to
do this.   What I'd like is a preview pane that just shows as plain text
similarly to the window that one gets by selecting an email, selecting the
properties button, selecting the details tab, and so on..., but with the
convience of a preview pane instead of they insane nesting of nested dialog
button/tab selections

If not possible with the built in preview, is there a way to add-in a
separate text only preview pane/tool?

Windows version?

Assuming Win98 or higher, check in at Windows Update:

1. Install IE6 SP1 & reboot;

2. Go back to Windows Update to install further Critical Updates & reboot.

3. Then, and only then:

OE Tools > Options > Read > Read all messages in plain text

Update to OE6 and check the appropriate option at Tools | Options | Read

You can't get raw message source in the Preview Pane.   But you can use a short cut key to
see the Message Source.  It is Ctrl+F3.

As the other replies mention, OE6 with SP1 or above has a setting to Read All Messages In
Plain Text.  But that won't show the HTML tags, etc.  IF the message is the typical
Multipart/Alternative HTML, it shows the Plain Text version of the message.  If there was
no plain text version, it strips the HTML version down to just the text for display.
