Hi,

Yes, OE will do this, but you'll have to leave your computer on, connected
to the internet, with OE running the whole time and polling for new messages
every xx number of minutes.  If you'd still like to know how to do this,
post back and we'll help you out.

A better option may be to contact your ISP and ask them if they offer
something for auto-responding; many do.

Margaret -

Our business systems are on and polling. My machine carries a database the
rest of the network uses (peer to peer).

I'd love to know how to do this.  Thanks

You can create a message rule to do this.  Tools | Message Rules | Mail,
then in the top box select "for all messages" and in the second pane select
"reply with message."  You will need to create a .txt message for your
reply, so the message content is placed in the body of the outgoing message.

You can use Message Rules in Outlook Express to automatically reply to
incoming messages.  But there are some problems with this:

- You must leave the computer running constantly while gone
- It must be set to send and receive messages on a schedule
- It must not encounter any errors or else it will stop and wait for user
intervention
- If you belong to any mailing lists be sure to unsubscribe or else make
sure that the
rules will exclude replies to the list.  Otherwise you will cause an
avalanche of messages
to the list.

If your mail server provides a vacation response, this is better handled on
the server.
(Note that the caution about mailing lists also applies to server based
vacation
responses.)
