HELP - I have set OE6 up with one rule - but it does not
seem to stop a lot of porn type mail getting through - I
have put a list of words in both the "message heading" and
the "message body" sections - about 80 words in each
section - but I seem to get about 5 a day that
contain "paris Hilton" (all from different people) in both
the title and the body of the message that never seem to
be blocked - I have even tried allowing the mail to
download into my inbox and then going to the message rules
and "applying" them and they still do not go into the
deleted folder - then I tried one click on the item to
highlight the message and ran the apply rules again and
they still do not go - is there a way for me to ge around
this - can I set up a rule that not only blocks mail with
the rule words in but returns the mail to sender unopened
with a message such as "I do not want to receive any
further mail like this from you or your partners" Thanks -

In box 2 (Select the action for your rule) Have you checked "Delete it" and
"Stop processing more rules" I realise you only have one rule but are they
both checked?

A few things to check:
1) What Action do you have in the Rule? If it is "Delete from Server", that won't work if
you check anything in the message body, since the message has to be downloaded to check
that. With the Delete from Server you can check the FROM, TO, CC, SUBJECT or message
size.
2) IF you are using just the Delete action (or Move to Deleted Items folder which does the
same thing), make sure that the rule as OR between the Subject and Body and not AND
As for trying to send a message back to the spammers, DON'T. The From address is almost
always faked. In most cases the message will just bounce back to you as undeliverable.
In some cases the spammers have used an innocent person's e-mail address and some even
have your address. And even in the rare cases that the messages have a true e-mail
address, it's unlikely anyone is even reading the returned mail let alone prepared to
honor your request.

I'm just agreeing with the message regarding message rules
not working. I was excited to discover the message rules
capability, but each time I add rules it's as if I get
more spam the next day, in retaliation! I installed OE 6
today, hoping it solved the problem, but according to the
original message below, it also doesn't work in 6.0.
Doesn't anybody have a solution for this? I've done
searches on the Microsoft website with no results.

Rules *do* work if you create and position them properly.

Message Rules work fine here. Give us an example of a rule that doesn't
work.
