What operating system are you using that still requires IE5.5?
What happens when you completely remove NIS?

im using XP for my OS but when i closed the window and opened Norton
again the problem would not occur and it still hasn't.  perhaps it was
just a hack or an anomoly.

This is not the group for XP questions as you don't have IE5.5
An XP or IE6 group may have been better.
If the trouble appears again, consider removing Norton.
