I direct my page to a doc file, and of course i asks whether to save or open
the file. Is it possible to by pass this confirmation dialog and open the doc
file in the browser?

This article looks at the question in reverse:

Open Windows Explorer and go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to the file type in question and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Uncheck the box for "Confirm open after download".
