Today when I try to play my WMP9 I get this error for every song:

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with
your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your
computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning
properly."

I did do a Creative Technology Ltd. multimedia software update
and ATI Technologies Inc. display software update  yesterday...could the
updates have caused the problem?

Hi Jacquie,

Last month when I did a Nvidia 2+MB update it screwed up my computer, and after a lot of end zone scratching, I re-installed with original CD, not accepting any of later files I had. Solved my problem . . . .

Not saying it is the same with your Creative . . . .

Best regards

Gus

Yes,  I would uninstall the Creative drivers and reinstall the previous ones.  Sound drivers and video drivers can be so picky.

Hi Jacquie,

Sorry to hear this.

My guess would be that the Creative update you did has caused the problem.

If I remember correctly you have a Dell.  Go to the Dell Sollution Center icon
on your machine and open it up click on Support||Tell me how||Device Guides||Sound Blaster||TroubleShooting
There should be instruction for Uninstall and Reinstalling Audio Drivers.

Good luck,

Don

Well I uninstalled and reinstalled my Sound Blaster. Still doesn't work...it
plays midi's and wavs but not MP3's or wma's. Guess I'll have to call Dell
...Hope I can get somebody with a accent that I can understand...:)

Yippie!!

It's always a good idea to make a Restore point before installing anything.

That's for sure...I was going nuts not being able to listen to music while I
was figuring out what to do for stationery...Music is very important to me
to get the juices flowing:)
