Hi to everyone,
Please let me know if you can view the above applet. I sent this to a friend with a great new computer, but he can't view it. He had his OE settings set to "less secure but more functional." He can see applets running on websites, but not in this e-mail. Is there something wrong with the way that I have put the applet in this e-mail? I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.
S. H. p.s. Would someone mind telling me what dogagent link is?
Adriana - 28 Feb 2004 05:19 GMT The applet works perfectly fine. Your friend may have Sun Java on his machine. You can view applets on websites with it..but it doesn't work with OE.

Star Harbor - 28 Feb 2004 05:44 GMT You are exactly right. I saw that "Sun Java" in internet tools. So, I told him to download java from java.com. It still doesn't work. Please tell me what can be done. I'm so glad that you knew about this. Thank you. S. H.

First he has to install version 3805 and then go back and install version 3810...and make a trip to the MS update page to make sure he has the updates.

Let me tell you how much I appreciate your advice. LOL I spent almost two days... (spare time that is) trying to figure out what I was doing wrong on this applet. I went over to his house and looked at it, and I was bewildered because he could view applets that were on websites. I don't get it. The applet is streaming from a website, so what difference does it make if it's viewed in OE or at the site? Anyway, the main things is I want to thank you. Best of regards, S. H.

PaulyG - 28 Feb 2004 05:46 GMT Hello Star Harbour, for the applet to work in email the applet must be streamed form a website....... and the base reference url must be the one where the applet is on the site Uncle Gus may have a tutorial on sending applets in email.. your friend can see it in OE because its coming from the website.. What you can try is this... get the applet in OE and send it to yourself as email.. when it lands in your inbox chit ctrl f2 this will open your source in notepad ... or whatever is your text editor... now save this text as applett.html to your desktop or my documents... now open your email and select stationery and chose the html you have just created.. remember to take out the base tag in the source..( there will be 2 base tags you need to remove the one that refers to where you saved the html and leave the on that points to the url of the applet... that should work ok now when yiou send it..
You should also bear in mind that doing this is actually using someone's bandwidth without their permission and not really the right thing to do without permission...if you have your own website then its not a problem as you can make/upload and link the applet the same way...

Star Harbor - 28 Feb 2004 05:56 GMT First, thank you for replying. I can see the applet working just fine in my email just as I can see it here in the newsgroup. My friend cannot see it in email that I send him. He does have Sun Java... as Adriana suggested. Yesterday I suggested to him to download "real" java from www.java.com. He did so, but he still couldn't see the applet in the email. I'm beginning to think that maybe Sun Java needs to be uninstalled. I just don't know. His computer is brand new... a Dell that is running Windows XP home edition. I'm running Windows XP Pro and have never had any trouble viewing this or any other applet in email.
Yes, the applet is being streamed from the website that is shown in the post I made to the newsgroup. Is there something wrong in the code? I can still see the applet working. I think that Adriana had no problem with it either. Couldn't you see it? That was what was worrying me. I was afraid that none of you could see it.
By the way... do you mind sharing the dogagent link with me. I don't know how to get there. Thank you, Pauly, so much.
Kindest regards, S.H.

I dont have the Dogadent link, I never go there sorry, but someone will come along with it for you I am sure.....Yes I can see the applet here..Adriana I see has posted some information for you as well...I assumed that your friend had the virtual machine installed...I should have clarified that.... well thats your first step to have your friend install the MS virtual machine and then see if it can be seen...

Dell computer people were talking to him on the telephone and they told him to got to www.java.com and download the full version of java. If you know anything about the difference between Sun Systems and the other one that Adriana suggested, please tell me. Pauly, thanks so much. S. H.

PaulyG - 28 Feb 2004 07:57 GMT well mate... its only my opinion but I only use MS virtual machine its a proven work horse..I have sun java as well for my html editor but its not my default one you can change that from your control pannel if you have sun systems installed.. just make sure its not the default (I am prety sure it installs as default so you will have to uncheck the default box) and you can have both no worries.. I am not sure how long it will be available....
Adriana has the link for it.. save it to your HD so you always have a copy dont forget to install the first one then the new one over the top of it... Don or Greg may have more information for you baout this but thats my 2 bobs worth mate..

Star Harbor - 28 Feb 2004 19:32 GMT Hi Pauly, Again, I want to thank you for your 2 cents worth.... hahahahahaha excuse me, I meant to say 2 bobs worth. Anything that all of you say... well, it's the truth for me. I will try to figure out abou the default. I know you said to go to control panel to fix the default. Where exactly do I do that? I don't want to mess anything up while I'm doing this, especially since it's someone else's computer. LOL Hugs, S. H.

I read what was going on with your first ? and can't help any on that beyond what everyone else has said. Because MS will no longer support MS JavaVM after Sept 2004, I am hoping that the Sun Java version will start working for us after WinXP/IE6 SP2.

> S. H. > p.s. Would someone mind telling me what dogagent link is? Star Harbor - 28 Feb 2004 07:51 GMT Hi Greg... How did you know that MS will no longer support MS Java VM after September 2004? Actually, I take all of those things for granted and don't even understand what they're doing.... I'm ashamed to say. So, in essence, this means that we won't be sending applets in OE in the future after September 2004a? If you happen to read my reply to Robbie about the folder views of jpg's, and if you know of any way to make that happen, please let me know. Thanks for all your input. Thank you for the dogagent link, too. See! I didn't even know what that link was. LOL Great regards, S. H.

Robbie - 28 Feb 2004 06:29 GMT There is nothing wrong with you applet Star Harbor. For applets to show in OE Newsgroup or email one needs the MSVM as Sun's doesn't work in OE. You don't have to uninstall Sun's but he needs to go to the link Adriana posted and pick up the MSVM's (I believe both are there) make sure he installs the 3805 first then 3810 and reboot. Then have him check the IE options and the advanced tag and make sure there is a check mark by Sun Java to view applets. Final link after clicking three time is: http://home.wanadoo.nl/jheroen/VM/#ms Robbie news://news.dogagent.com/OE6Stationery

Star Harbor - 28 Feb 2004 07:52 GMT Thanks a million for replying. Not only is he confoozed... so am I. LOL I talked with him and he's going to do exactly what you say. What about this that you said that the final link is http://home.wanadoo.nl/jheroen/VM/#ms ? You mean to go there the last thing... and do what? What is this about MS not supporting Virtual Machine after Sept. 2004? Where does everyone get all this good information? I feel that I'm behind on everything. Not only has this problem cropped up, but I have one of my own that I posted on Windows XP newgroup. No one has answered me, yet... at least until a few minutes ago. I don't suppose you know how to make the dimensions show up in a folder, do you? In my stationery folder the jpg's used to show their dimensions over in the left vertical area when I would click on one. That was a big help because I didn't have to open the dern thing in a graphics program to get the image information. Ok... I got the dimensions to show up for gif's !!!! but why on earth don't the dimensions shop up for the jpg's ? I'm so disgusted with this silly stuff that I should be able to manage. Anyway... if you know please tell me. .... and...... thanks for your input. Oh.... you said that the check should be by Sun Java.... well, even if the other things are downloaded, they won't show up as an option, will they? I just tell him to put a check by the Sun Java... and that will do the trick? Regards, S. H.
