The attachment is an *.iaf file that will set up the NG server with the
Password and Username (It's generic for everyone). But don't use it if you
already use the privatenews.microsoft.com server as it might wipe out you
current settings.  I've never had two or more passwords for the same server.

What I did was set up another privatenews.microsoft.com and enter this
username and password for the new one it put a (1) after the server.  So I
can still get the beta groups too.

unable to open attachment...what am I doing wrong?

Hi Leo,

In addition to Sandy's instructions, here's another way to set up.  I
clicked on Greg's attachment and chose the option to SAVE to disk.  I put it
on my Desktop.  I then went to Tools, Accounts, News and clicked on
"Import."  A box popped open.  I browsed for Greg's attachment and
double-clicked on it.  It immediately created the private newsgroup all by
itself. (It was listed under all my other newsgroups.)

While still in the Tools, Accounts, News box, I clicked on the private
newsgroup "Properties" and removed Greg's name and added mine.  I also
changed his email address to mine.

Good Luck,
Vicki

Thanks for sending this in, Vicki.  We will have to keep a look out for the
folks that need help getting to the private server.

You don't open the attachment, Leo.  You simply save it, as is, to a folder on your hard drive.  Then you go to Outlook Express - Tools - Accounts - News - Import and browse to the file folder containing the attachment which you then import into OE.  You will then need to go into Properties and change the name and email address to reflect your own and that's about all there is to it thanks to Greg.
Hope this helps.

Greg, I can't open the .iaf attachment you included.  Is there a special
thing I need to do to make it legible to my system?

Pat
(Oh, I am signed onto privatenews, no probs, but am just curious about the
extension of your attachment name, or the software you used.  Am I missing
out on something good?)

You don't open it Pat. You save it to anywhere you want and  import it to
OE. It will then set up the private newsgroup for you. Just remember to
change out Greg's  name and addy for yours.

Hi Pat,

The .iaf file is a Microsoft proprietory file format.  If you click on Tools||Accounts...||Export...,
the Account you have highlighted will be saved with a .iaf extention.  It can later be imported
back into OE by clicking on Tools||Accounts...||Import... and browsing to the .iaf file.
