I went on a tare yesterday and downloaded and installed a bunch of Windows Security Updates for my Windows XP. I can no longer open most scripted emails. Outlook Express terminates without an error message. When I open multimedia webpages. IE hangs. I know, I should have done one fix at a time and tested each one. I've scanned the crap out of my machine. My Norton is up to date and I'm sure I don't have a worm or virus. Any suggestions are appreciated....................Joanie

Joanie, Can you do a system restore back before you did the updates, if you can try that and install one at a time.  to see what is messing up your system.

Thanks for your input Robbie. I set a restore point before doing all the updates. I think this is what I will have to do............Joanie

The system restore did not work. It just tells me it could not restore my system to any of those restore points. I've pretty much narrowed the problem to my Windows Media Player. I notice the bad behavior only with emails or webpages that have streaming content. Outlook Express terminates without an error message. OE hangs, and when I close it I get an error logged into my event file. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks..............Joanie

Ok you may have to re install WMP...Not sure which oone you have....WMP 7 or 9 can be redownloaded and installed WMP 8 I will have to research.

Robbie,
I just want to thank you for your input once again. I finally got this problem figured out.Just knowing that there is someone out there willing to give input and offerings of help without knowing my level of competance is encouraging and I comend you for that. The problem was with one of the Windows Media Player security updates that apparently changed the settings in my WMP network options. I eventually narrowed it to the WMP and only connections to streaming media. I've learned quite a lot with this problem and I  feel confident that we will continue to enjoy unrestricted creativity without threat to the security to our computers. I now have all the updates installed and it all works as before. I sacrifice some of the "dummy proof" security settings, but "I ain't scared of no hackers"!
Hugs............................Joanie
