I'm having an echo for wav/midi files when I open the e-mail (Outlook
Express) full screeen.  I have to return to the preview mode in order to not
get the echo.
Is there a solution to this problem?

Just a FYI - I have the identical manifestation on my system. I'm using
XP-Pro-SP2 with OE 6.00.2900.2180. I've tried a bunch of things to change
this behavior - without success. I hope some one can give us a clue..

"Sorry for the me too post."

Carl and PJ turn off the preview pane and just double click on the headers...what is
happening is you have ytwo versions open at the same time so you will hear the echo.  To
turn of the prview pane go to view>layout and remove the check in preview pane...you will
need to do this for both email and newsgroups.

That happens because you have two instances of the same message open (one in
the Preview Pane and one in the expanded message view).  The easiest
workaround for those messages is to add a button to the Toolbar for Preview
(right click the Toolbar, select Customize, scroll to Preview, click Add and
Close).  Then before opening a message in an expanded view, click the
Preview button to close the message in the Preview Pane and double click the
message in the list to open expanded.  It can get disconcerting since one is
playing a few (or more) beats behind one in the Preview Pane.

Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped.
Thanks.

Robbie & Jim,

Your reply is much appreciated. It makes sense to me now. I've been through
a lot with my system over the past few months. I had it go belly up on me &
I was unable to recover the system. I chose to upgrade the hardware (2 new
hard drives) and the software as well. I moved from Windows ME to XP-Pro &
upgraded Office and FP to 2003-Pro as well. I had some driver issues along
with all of this "mess" that I also bullied my way through.

I guess the thing that I missed was that I also became very interested in
stationery at the same time. It never really dawned on me, until your
replies, that I had never really listened to included sounds is an OE
e-mail or newsgroup before. I was puzzled but figured Oh-well - until Carl
posted his query.

Thanks ever so much for taking the time to reply.

More than glad to help...Forgot about adding the preview button to the toolbar as I never
use the preview pane in OE.

Jim,

I took your suggestion and added the "Preview" button on my toolbar. It
works very nicely for me.

Thanks,
PJ

I want to thank Robbie and Jim for their assistance in solving my "media"
problem.  I took the advice and it works like a charm.  Thanks a
whole-bunch.
