Vietvet70 - 29 Sep 2003 05:32 GMT Anyone else has noticed the amount, frequency and size of the electrical blackouts in the United States, Canada, Norwegian countries, Italy and other places recently? My initial suspicion is that it is a plan conveyed to return the civilized world to a previous time without electricity. Recent world events make me think that the worst is yet to come.
What is your opinion on this if any at all?

On another subject:
Why the HUGE amount of messages from "Microsoft"? They are intended to install a program that steals your list of names and addresses. What for? Beats me...

PaulG - 29 Sep 2003 07:02 GMT I think the same... I wish I could say more but I am typing this in the dark........seriously...too much of a coincedence IMO..... I thought it was each country doing their contingencies..until (with the greatest respect) it happened in Italy...and they are not really famous for contingency planning...

Cynthia - 29 Sep 2003 12:51 GMT does the word "terrorism" mean anything to you?
BobJ - 29 Sep 2003 16:14 GMT Rotflol...now you've gone and upset your cousin Guido Gallagher not to mention the Italian side of Adriana's family who are probably in a contingency meeting at this very moment. The local newspaper said this morning that a tree limb fell across a power line in Switzerland, thus blacking out all of Italy which has almost no power generating capacity itself so your statement, although humorous, does appear to be valid. Keep your backside protected. Bob
BobJ - 29 Sep 2003 20:13 GMT Rotflol...Paul, I can't wait to hear Cousin Guido Gallagher's rebuttal to this. BTW, local newspapers say a tree limb fell across a power line in Switzerland causing all of Italy to be blacked out. Apparently, Italy has little or no generating capacity of their own which tends to give factual backing to your humorous statement. Keep your backside protected. Bob
PaulG - 30 Sep 2003 00:03 GMT Seeeeeeeee Bob I told ya..... now they will insist that the Swis plant smaller trees....

> Bob Cynthia - 29 Sep 2003 12:50 GMT messages from Microsft? are you talking about the barrage of phony messages with the virus attachments? Those are NOT from Microsoft, my dear! Those are malicious fakes!
BobJ - 29 Sep 2003 16:43 GMT In my opinion, the world population is simply exceeding the electrical generating capacity of many of the heavier populated countries and the result is the blackouts we are now witnessing. We can build more power plants or start finding a humane solution to the very controversial topic of population control...which ain't gonna happen any time soon. Anyway, there has been no evidence of any terrorist activity involved with any of the blackouts so my advice is to keep a few kerosene lanterns and a battery radio handy so that you can keep the party going during the next blackout or take advantage of the silence and get a good night's sleep, then enjoy tomorrow's sunshine. <g> Also, I've seen no evidence of Microsoft attempting to obtain anyone's address and suggest that this is just another rumor not worth losing any sleep over. Life is short and que sera sera, Vietvet70. Bob
Aleeta - 29 Sep 2003 21:56 GMT Amen, Bob, things generally happen in three's and I feel there is a perfect explanation, but infrastructure is for sure lacking, so they had better get with the program real soon.;o))
PS...Not everything is a conspiracy.;o))

Since blackouts are not your day-to-day-event, I found it strange at the amount, extension and frequency of blackouts througout the civilized world: U.S. and Europe. Today I did a search and found the following:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From: http://ben.milleare.com/archives/000099.html August 29, 2003 Recent Blackouts - Sinister? Well, London is the latest big city to get hit by a major blackout, yesterday at 6:26pm there was "unprecedented disruption" caused by a fault in the 275,000-volt system affecting a ring around the capital.
What I want to know is, with the second anniversary of 9/11 just around the corner, is there something more sinister going on?
I find it very hard to believe that both the US and UK can have such major failures in their electricity grids so close to each other and it just be a coincidence. Could this be some islamic fundamentalist group 'testing' their plans before a strike?
I've always been led to believe that the grids are fully redundant and their failsafes meant that this kind of thing couldn't happen, obviously I was wrong... unless of course, those things were taken into consideration by would be attackers.

Comments Well Ben,
I think you might be on to something (but what?). After London, we had a major blackout in Sweden a couple of days ago and today almost whole Italy is without electricity. What is going on ? Terrorists, solar eruptions or worse ? I eagerly await the answer, if there is any.
Ulf
Posted by: Ulf C at September 28, 2003 12:08 PM I definitely dont think it is coincidental. Something is going on, what I dont know. I've heard so many theories, I guess we will find out in due time.
Posted by: Shannon at September 29, 2003 04:28 AM Dont take this to heart but there was alot of UFO sitings in my area when we had the blackout here in the USA. I hate to speculate but ya just never know.
Posted by: Shannon at September 29, 2003 04:30 AM Aliens? Impossible unless they are from a third world PLANET!
Today's blackout in Italy convinces me that my "terrorist theory" is right on target. Why is it just the countries who are allies of the U.S. in the war on terror who are affected?
Could the terrorists be planning a simultaneous international power outage? I don't like to think what might come next while the power is down.
Sorry for all the doom and gloom.
Kathryn
Posted by: Kathryn at September 29, 2003 07:01 PM It's certainly a scary thought and I wouldn't like to hazard a guess at what might happen should a simultaneous strike occur in multiple countries.

BobJ - 30 Sep 2003 02:37 GMT Politicians and deregulation of the power companies is at the root of the current problems as the companies, under pressure from shareholders, must now put profits ahead of the public interest. Deregulation has transferred our power companies into lean, sleek companies capable of cutting costs and generating profits, not electricity, gas or telephone services. Deregulation has given us Enron, Worldcomm and an inefficent electrical power grid. But look on the bright side, our monthly utility bills have been dramatically reduced since deregulation, right? The conspiracy you're looking for occurred years ago and your local congressman was probably one of the conspirators. I suggest you stop looking for terrorists under your bed and start looking at what is going on in Congress...that's where the real damage is done. Bob
PaulG - 30 Sep 2003 03:26 GMT mmmm sounds familiar Bob..... trouble is mate no-one listens too much these days of rampant consumerism..
