Last weekend I installed SP2 on my Windows 2000 home pc.
Since then, I have been unable to connect to the Internet
or Outlook. I get an error message on Outlook that
saysconnection to the server has failed.Socket error
10060.Error no. 0x800CCC0E.
I don't know whether the installation is to blame, but it
seems likely. Freeserve / Wanadoo (my ISP) have suggested
I contact Microsoft, as they supply the service packs. I
have set up a .NET Passport address and this is my first
time! They suggest removing and replacing my email
settings if the problem is NOT the SP installation.
Can anyone help please?

Generally, this is the culprit:
Disable e-mail scanning in your anti-virus. You will still be
protected by the other components of your A/V.

But Windows 2000 has had Service pack 3 out since last October. You
might want to check that out.

Also, make sure your A/V is disabled before you download anything.

though. But I think it was after I upgraded my Outlook
Express from 5 to 6. The other thing I did this weekend
was upgrade my Norton Internet Services from 2003 to
2004. If I disable the Norton Internet Services, emails
go through ok. I've tried every other setting in NIS to no
avail. Unfortunately, it looks like NIS may have gotten
hosed up - When going through firewall settings, changes
do not take, and I receive continuous dll errors, etc.
Another problem I am experiencing - here again I don't
know for sure when it started - is that the response time
to browse through my inbox and other folders in Outlook
Express 6 is verrrrryyyyyy lonnnnnggggg - like about seven
seconds each time I highlight an email entry.
Anybody know anything about this?
What settings and mail files should I backup before doing
any removal/re-installs?
I understand Outlook Express 6 is tied into IE also. My
workstation is running on ME.
