Well, I have tried every kind of fix that was suggested on various web sites
and here as well. Unfortunately, none will work. Still stuck.

Fortunately, I have a workaround, i.e. disabling "Auto-Select" in Internet
Explorer's View "Encoding" sub-menu.  Curiously, this same workaround
is needed when I access a secure SSL web site that makes extensive use of
Java otherwise there are display problems and I get disconnected from the
site.

I also tried to replace dispex.dll but it didn't help. During my research, I
found
an interesting way to start a repair of MSIE if for some reason this option
is
not available anymore when one starts ie6setup.exe :

Click Start and then Run and enter the following command exactly as typed :

  rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance

That may help someone.

That's all, I'm giving up.

Autoselect should only be used when absolutely required in Internet Explorer
and should not be set as a default.  Instead use either the Windows (ISO) or
European as the default setting.  It's a common fix when users have problems
printing and I'm surprised no one pointed it out to you earlier.

If you think a repair/reinstall is required in the future, method 2 in this
KB article will also work on all earlier operating systems except for
Windows 95:

How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows:

Hey, I am glad it worked for you too. Unfortunately, it is only a workaround
not a real fix so I hope the people at microsoft are reading this thread
because
they should be working on this issue and release a hotfix.
