Have Windows98,IE and OE6, McAfee Virus Scan latest version automatically
downloaded.
Could anyone solve this IE Script Error message which since the update I now
get while McAfee Virus Scan is endeavouring to scan my outbound e-mails in
OE6 (no joy from McAfee's own help site or MS Knowledge Base).

Line 24, Char 2. Error: Object required:
'gobj External.GetParam{...]'
URL mcp://c:\PROGRA~1\MCAFEE.COM.VSO\EMSCNRES.DLL::smtpstatus.htm
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page? Y/N
Whether I say Y or N Virus Scan then freezes & I don't think the messages
are sent although OE says they have been.
McAfee's so-called live chat has given me all sorts of instructions but they
really do not seem to apply to this particular message. I am very technical
& it is all a bit much for me.
Or shall I just set VS not to scan outbound messages & just leave it that?
Thanks for any help.

Turn off the email can module in McAfee. It is not needed to protect
your computer (or anyone else's) and has proven itself to be the source
of innumerable problems with OE. You're lucky it hasn't wiped out all
your mail folders as I have seen it do.

Thank you Tom. I had already decided to disable Virus Scan from scanning
outbound mail to save myself all that unnecessary hassle. I still let it
scan incoming because it has so far detected & removed many viruses, usually
in its blocked mail folder (I also have SpamKiller  which I find works
well). Have had not had any trouble on that score. So is that OK? Sybil Fox?

Even the incoming email scan is not necessary. An email with a virus
attached is not a problem unless you open the attachment, at which point
your anti-virus system scan will stop it. I don't recommend any email
scanning on a client machine because of the long history of anti-virus
programs damaging Outlook Express files.
