Thanks Jim. I thought I anwered the questions on a
previous post, but maybe not. I use McAfee Security. I
changed the setting to scan email after you told me to the
1st time. I am able to get some email, but certain thins
do not come through. Thanks again for your help.
Gee, I wish you hadn't said McAffee. That product has a bad habit of
filling a DBX file with all zeroes which makes it unreadable by anyone or
any utility. I doubt you'll find anyone here who would recommend using
McAffee and Symantec products are not far behind in some of the havoc they
create.
Have no real idea of anything else that might help, other than only using
web access to read your mail for awhile to ensure you at least get to see it
first before it gets lost. As for your ISP, many are quick to blame all
problems on Outlook Express rather than bothering to look within their own
organization to see if there truly is a problem. That's what happens when
tech help at your local ISP is only earning minimum wage and can only
provide information from a "scripted" sheet of paper.

Does that mean that I need to change the DBX? What is DBX?
Do you know how to change it?

A DBX file is a database file, readable by Outlook Express only (with the
exception of some 3rd party utilities). You cannot change or interchange
them with other DBX files since they will not be recognized by the master
DBX file that holds all the information about them (Folders.dbx).
If the problem is that you believe a DBX file to be corrupted, make a copy
of it in a new folder you create, then download DBXtract from www.oehelp.com
($5) and run it inside of that newly created folder to see if it can extract
any information as separate EML files. But as stated, the use of McAffee
and email scanning can create a totally unreadable DBX file since it has
been known to fill an entire DBX file with zeroes (or garbage) making them
unreadable by any program or utility.
Browse the website www.oehelp.com for some utilities that you may find handy
if you continue to use email scanning in combination with McAffee. Good
luck.
