Receiving 2 copies of every message - why is this?

I've suddenly just started receiving 2 copies of every email into my Outlook
Express 6 inbox.  It's very confusing and is cluttering up my inbox.  If I
exit the program and then go back into Outlook Express in about 5 mins time
it removes one copy of the email - but this is annoying and time consuming
and I'm getting confused as to what is the REAL message and which is the
duplicate one as on re-entering OE6 it deletes one copy of the emails.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
Many thanks

Hotmail or IMAP?

Turn off one of these options:

When starting go directly to my Inbox

or

Send and Receive messages at startup.

With both of these options checked, OE essentially is asking for Hotmail or
MSN Web mail messages twice, concurrently.  Also, don't manually go to your
Hotmail or MSN Web mail Inbox until the mail check is complete.
