I have Aol as my ISP which works fine. I also have Active 24 who supply
e-mail which I use through outlook express ver 6. Whilst I can recieve
emails through OE whenever I send emails I get the following error
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Chris (Work)', Server:
'smtp.activeisp.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket
Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
I have tried smtp.aol.com with aol port setting 587 (OE port 25). Both Aol
and active24 assure me there part is working fine and " its the others ".
Aol now say its a Microsoft issue as its there software??
Is there anybody out there in technical land who has a answer to my very
frustrating problem!!!!

A search of the internet shows that this error means "server cannot be
found". There are quite a few fixes posted there as well.
You could try pinging the server whenever this error happens.
And, no matter what AOL says, servers sometimes get too busy to responds to
posts.
