can't delete existing e-mails

Move any messages out of the deleted items folder that you wish to keep.
Then close OE and delete the deleted items.dbx file (hidden).  OE will then
create a new one and that should fix it.

am not able to empty deleted items folder. On the new e-mails I am trying to
delete, if I re-boot and then check work offline, I am then able to delete  
4-5 messages before" this program has performed an illegal function" and
shuts it down.

this is on windows 98, ny the way
