Although the"Send messages immediately" box is unchecked, more often than
not they do get sent before I have had time to re-read them in the Out box.
How can I stop this happening?

OE>tools>options>general>extend the period to check for new messages, or
remove that checkmark and it will only check for mail when you do it
manually.
