Extra Email Attachments

When I send out an email with an attachment, extra attachments are
automatically added to the email.  These attachments are only visible if the
recipent of the email double clicks on the proper attachment.  I have noticed
that the other attachments are of jpg & gif picture files that were stored in
my Temporary Internet Files.  If I clear my Temporary Internet Files BEFORE I
send out an email with an attachment, then there are no extra attachments
sent with my email.

Can any one give me some ideas on how to resolve this problem with extra
attachments being automatically sent ?

Thank you in advance.

Neil.

Delete your Temporary Internet Files (and accept the prompt to delete all
offline content) more often.

If I delete my Temporary Internet Files and accept the prompt to delete all
offline content, then go to 1 single web site and then close Internet
Explorer, I will still have the same problem.  So doing this more often does
NOT resolve the issue.

You may have a corrupt (damaged) cache.  Windows version?  IE version?

Windows XP, IE 6.0.  Should I upgrade it to IE 7.0 ??

No, it was just a question.

To delete the possibly corrupt cache, log-on as Administrator and manually
delete C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Temporary
Internet Files <=this folder.

If the problem persists, Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if
its the default Main Identity.  Try one or more of your accounts in a new
Named Identity (File > Identities > Add new identity).  Assuming all is
well, (1) compact all folders in the old identity, (2) import messages from
the old identity into the new one, and then (3) delete the old one (File >
Identities > Manage Identities).

To avoid such corruption in future:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages.  Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [not available in SP2] and frequently
perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline".  More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- WinXP SP2 only: Do not shut down your machine while Windows is
automatically compacting your message store.

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption.  Disable it.  It provides no additional protection.

Thank you VERY MUCH for all the suggestions to try.  Is there a possibility
that a virus and/or spyware is causing this issue also ??

Doubtful, but you could always check to rule it out.

What types of attachments are you sending in the first place?  Are they
also images?

What steps are you performing to attach the intended attachments?

Do you also see the extra attachments in your Sent Items folder?

Are you using Plain Text or HTML format?

Have you specified to use any stationery? (Tools, Options, Compose)
