I am using Outlook Express 6 on XP, however when I receive a new email I
don't get notified. I have gone to Tools|Options|General and selected 'Play
sound when new messages arrive' but this doesn't seem to make a difference.
What else do I need to do?

And..I have found since I have had XP, I am unable to connect to any news
group server. I have spoken to my ISP about this, but they say that they
don't support this. Any suggestions?

Cheers

Q1: Speakers on? Control Panel | Sounds and Audio Devices | Sounsd. Scroll
down to New Mail Notification and check that a sound is applied and that it
works.

Q2: MSNews? Setting up Outlook Express Newsreader for MSNews:

Hey Thanks Bruce.

Is there anyway to active a visual notify? I use Outlook at work and when I
receive a new email its header fades in at the cornor of my screen, then
slowly fades out.

You should get a visual envelope on your Windows Toolbar when you receive a
new message. It should remain there until all new messages have been read.
Do you get this?

If it disappears before you read the messages, or you don't see it at all:

You may have a damaged identity especially if it is the default Main
Identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it.
If all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book from the old
identity and delete it.

Check out my OETune program.  You can play a sound for a message going to a
given folder and then also have it display an html page.
