New computer therefore fresh install.
1st problem, spell check gives an error message when trying to do the check
or when sending, I have always check set. The listed dictionary is English
and there are entries in the custom dictionary.
2nd problem, I read newsgroups from 3 different accounts. Autodesk, Rhino3d
and my isp.
I can download files from the last two, but all files from Autodesk are
corrupted or incomplete. They can be downloaded with a different computer.

I have office 2003. I tried upgrading to IE 7, IE 6 originally loaded but no
joy.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
BF

What was the full error message?

If your refering to the spell check, it's a very generic "An error occured
while the spelling was being checked", not much help.

If your refering to the download problem, it's corrupted file or images that
have only a few lines at the top of the image. I suspect the problem is the
same for both, not all of the file is being received.

Thanks,
BF

1) Spelling Command Is Not Available in OE for Win XP 64-bit Edition
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308078

2) Is the text of the messages OK and just the attachments a problem?

On the PC that works, are you also using OE?

Are the messages multi-part (e.g. 1 of x, 2 of x, etc.)?

What type of encoding is being used?  MIME/Base64, Uuencode, yEnc, etc.?

Thanks Mike,
Guess I'll just uncheck spell at send.

For part 2.
Yes, text is fine, just attachments
Yes, OE for both
Not multi part
I assume UUE but may be mime, definetly not yEnc

As a test, I tried with Agent and had no problem getting attachments on the
troubled machine

With the corrupted attachments, are you able to do a File, Save
Attachments?

If so, how does the file size of the saved attachment compare to the
attachments when using the other PC or Agent?

If the sizes are OK, do you have better luck opening the saved
attachments rather than trying to open from within OE?

Yes, I jsut tried and I can save but an xls showing as 1800 kb on OE saved
as 3 kb and Excel will not open it, as you might expect.
I posted the same queston on an Acad group and have had only one reply. He
claims to have the same problem, but has switched to Thunderbird.
So it seems to be a compatibility problem between Adesk and XP 64.

Appreciate you help, let me know if you think of anything else. I'll update
if anything comes up at the other end.

If you file, Save As to a NWS file the news message, how big is the NWS
file?

You mention a PC with OE that works OK with the news server.  Is that
also running XP 64 or another version?

Tried two
First one OE shows 68kb the NWS was 67kb
Second OE shows 1800 kb and NWS was 1700 kb
Both case the attached file would not open
The computer that can access the newsgroup files successfully has XP 32 bit
One responder on the Adesk newsgroup reports success using Window Mail, I
assume on Vista 64, so the problem seems to be with just that newsgroup and
OE on 64 bit,

Again, I appreciate your concern Mike.

If you would like, you may send me one of the problem messages (the 67
KB one) and I'll take a look at it.  It's best if you zip the message so
that I get an exact copy of it.  Then Right click the saved NWS file and
select Send To, Compressed (zipped) folder.  Then e-mail me the
resulting ZIP file.
