I mistakenly deleted all of Microsoft Outlet program files and data files on
my brother's computer and emptied the recycling bin. I downloaded a free
restoration program and it identified all deleted files. Has anyone ever
used one of these programs before to restore deleted files? I don't know
where to restore these files to.... the actual C: drive where they came from
or a separate drive that we have. I am afraid to restore to the C: drive. I
am going to wait to do anything more until I know where to restore these
files....anyone have any ideas or experience in this area? Any info would be
appreciated. Thanks.

What is Microsoft Outlet? If you are referring to MS Outlook, you are in the
wrong place. If you are referring to Outlook Express, please elaborate on
how, and what you deleted, i.e. folders, or dbx files. What restoration
program did you try?

It would be best to restore to another drive or partition.
When a file is deleted, the location of the file is deleted and the space
becomes available for storing other files.
The file is still on the drive until other files are written to the deleted
files space.
Eliminate the possibility of the restored file writing to the deleted file's
space by restoring to another drive or partition.

If you are referring to Outlook Express, then the restoration programs don't
work very well on the dbx files, but you can try and specify a different
drive for output. See also www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#4 for message
recovery techniques.
