I have used Outlook Express 6 (OE) for many years. Recently I had to change
over to Road Runner (RR) from Adelphia. Many problems. I contacted this
forum without success. I contacted CA 2007 (Anti virus, Anti Spam, etc) They
could not help. Same with RR but they did provide a work around and
suggested that one or more files in OE was corrupted.

Is it possible to re-install OE without loosing my received and sent emails?

Like what? Someone here may well have a solution if you tell us what they
are. Merely changing ISP should have no effect on your mail client at all.

The problems occurred after I changed the ISP. At that time I had to change
the Security Suites from Adelphia's "Freedom" to Road Runner's CA 2007.
Below is an earlier post of mine to this forum.

>I have used Outlook Express (OE) for many years. Suddenly I am receiving an
error icon (bottom right of the screen) and a pair of error messages (Error
messages 0x800420CD and 0x800CCC90). Also I receive the same emails from
senders received earlier, i.e. I receive additional instances of emails each
time I open OE. I use CA Security Center from Time Warner (Road Runner). I
have not changed anything that I am aware of. Error messages are shown
below.

1). Message number 2 could not be retrieved. Account:
'pop-server.roadrunner.com', Server: 'pop-server.roadrunner.com', Protocol:
POP3, Server Response: '.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error:
0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800420CD

2). The server responded with an error. Account:
'pop-server.roadrunner.com', Server: 'pop-server.roadrunner.com', Protocol:
POP3, Server Response: 'Return-Path: <Mayberrystrvz@firstworld.net>', Port:
110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Peter>

Road Runner Tech Support suggested removing excess post from their email
site (https://webmail.roadrunner.com. I did this and the problem in OE  (on
two computers) went away, so far.

So the problem would seem to be with the security suite. BTW you don't HAVE
to use any "security suite" at all if you don't want to. Your ISP cannot
dictate what software you use.  Try disabling it and see if that stops the
problems.

I had done that, problem was not solved.

See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3  You need to disable email scanning and
then set your accounts up again.  Also disable any antispam software.  If
you persist in downloading the same messages over and over again, then
delete the pop3uidl.dbx file (hidden).

Steve, many thanks for your help. Apparently my email comes to Outlook
Express via Road Runner's (RR) Webmail site which I don't use directly. I
went into the RR Webmail site and deleted the repeating messages. This
solved the problem so far. If the problem reappears I shall use your
solution.

FYI: RoadRunner's web mail site is just an HTTP access to the content of a
POP3 server. The email arrives via SMTP, and client access is via POP3.
