I just received a message from Net Zero to change the mailserver port from 25
to 587, which I did and still received this message when I tried to send
mail:               The host 'POP3' could not be found. Please verify that
you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'POP3', Server: 'POP3',
Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0D

Did you try changing it back to what it was?

Configure NetZero in Outlook Express:

Sorry about stating the new thread, I pressed the wrong button. Yes I changed
it back, didn't work.  Could Norton be involved in this?

Is Email Protection (scanning) still disabled?

Hi PA Bear,

While I'm working on fixing the OE, I keep it disabled but when I'm through
I enable Norton again.

You want to /disable/ Email Protection (email scanning) and leave it
disabled.

Do NOT disable NAV itself if the machine's connected to the internet.

Neither POP3 not SMTP is a proper server name.  Please chsange the outgoing
server to authsmtp.netzero.com and the incoming server topop.netzero.com

The link Bruce gave you is worth reading.

Hi Frank,

I have it configured the way you stated, still doesn't work.  The first
thing I did was go to the netzero website and configure it that way and it
didn't work.(before I posted here.)   I think I'm just going to give up, and
use my web email.  I've already spent 6 hours on this.
Thanks for the help.  I appreciate it.

I just tripped over this, it says 'Local Area Network' cable is unplugged,
what is that?

It means the problem may be the connection to the modem, or the modem
itself.

PA Bear,

I have the phone line plugged into the"Line" port. I have nothing plugged
into the "Phone port" or the LAN port on the tower.
I'm also not sure about my connection settings.   In OE, they're all set to
"LAN".
I use dial up to get online via netzero.

Bruce, I just found this forum about Bonnie and her problem with POP 3, I
also have the same problem.  The host 'POP3' could not be found. Please
verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'POP3',
Server: 'POP3', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error:
11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D.  It is also on Port: 25.  I have Windows XP;
IE7 and today got the Alltel wireless adapter that will be my way of
connecting to the internet.  Even with MSN I had problems enabling the
Outlook Express.  I also went to Set Program Access and Defaults and chose
Microsoft everything, and it still would not send a message.  Also, I do not
communicate through a server, it is just my home computer.  Two years ago, I
was very frustrated trying to do the same thing that I gave up and went with
an ISP.  I would like to drop the ISP and just use Microsoft Outlook.  HELP!!

Donna. Please start your own NEW thread and post your error message
verbatim. You can LEFT click on the text of the error message and then right
click to copy.

I don't know if the error message you posted is yours, but if it is, your
server settings are not correct.

I tried to Telnet to your POP3 server. Doesn't work:

| C:\Documents and Settings\Norman>telnet pop3 110
| Connecting To pop3...
| Could not open connection to the host, on port 110: Connect failed

I assume you have "SMTP" as your SMTP server name?

Try this, instead:
