Hi
A friend of mine runs a club mailing list and accidentally deleted the group
mailing list from his OE address book.
Is there any way to recover the group?
I suggested he simply recreate the group albeit a tedious task with so many
entries but it would seem he doesn't have the individual addresses within
the address book . That surprised me - is it possible to have a mailing
group without the individual addresses being stored within main identity's
contacts?
Thanks for any info.

Upon the assumption that your friend's version of OE is linked to the
windows address book (default.wab), deletion of the group name should
NOT delete any of the individual addresses within the main address list.
Your friend should be able to re-create the group and then, drag
individual names into the re-created group.

Hi Bob
Thanks for replying.
I dont know how or why he no longer has the indivdual addresses but as I
said <<I suggested he simply recreate the group... but it would seem he
doesn't have the individual addresses within the address book>>
Anyone know where the group data is stored?
Thanks

Start, Run, wab /a
View, check Folders and Groups
Check in all of the folders for the addresses.

I'm guessing he doesn't make regular backups of his address book.
But OE does make a backup that MIGHT still have the group (depends on if
he's made additional updates since deleting the group.
Have him see:
The Windows Address Book (WAB)
http://www.insideoe.com/files/wab.htm
And it is possible to directly add addresses to a group without putting
them in the main address book first. In that case, you delete the
group, you delete the contact.

Hi Guys
Just wanted to thank you all for taking the time to reply with your
suggestions.
After doing a search for all WAB files I found one in the recycle bin (don't
ask how it got there!) which fortunately contained the group list.
After restoring it I managed to import all the contacts, including the
groups, from it into another WAB.
Phew!!!
Thanks again.
