I use two computers.  Both XP Home, IE 7 and OE 6.  Computer #1 has an
updated Address Book and I want to update #2.  I exported the WAB file from
#1 to a thumbdrive.  Put thumbdrive in computer #2.  Opened OE and did
FILE-IMPORT-ADDRESS BOOK from the thumbdrive.  On the screen it said I had
successfully imported the updated Address Book.  Closed OE and re-opened OE.
New Address Book did not appear.  What am I missing?  Thanks.

Did you do the import from OE's File | Import, or the Address Book's File |
Import?

<Canned>

Open the Address Book | File | Export | Address Book (wab) either to a CD,
or another location on your HDD and burn from there. Copy the CD to a folder
on the new machine. Right click on it | Properties and remove the Read Only
attribute. Open the Address Book | File | Import | Address Book (wab) and
point to where you saved it.

I have attempted to download it from main OE menu and the Address Book menu.

However, looking at the file on the thumbdrive I cannot find any data.  That
may explain everything.  I will go back to the other computer and export the
WAB file again.

How did you export the WAB file?  (NB: WAB.EXE is *not* your Address Book!)

What is the name of the exported WAB file?

Assuming you did the export correctly, did you try Copying the WAB file from
the thumbdrive to the desktop of the target machine and remove any Read Only
attribute the file may have before you attempted to import it?

Are you importing via Address Book: File | Import or OE: File | Import?

I understand now that the WAB file is not the correct address book file.  I
copied (not exported from OE) the file from the source computer c:\Documents
and Settings\Administrator\application data\microsoft\address book.  On the
thumbdrive it is listed as Keene Valley (name of admin) and says it is an
address book.  However, when I open that file it is blank.  No addresses.
There is also the file KeeneValley.wab~ it contains no data that is
readable.

From Outlook Express on the host computer I also exported a CSV file.  On
the thumbdrive this has all the addresses that I want, but only a list of
them.  I had them broken into several groups that I email.

I'm just not sure how to get a file that has the groups listed.  I feel
close, but not there yet.  Thanks for the help.

1. Export the Address Book as a WAB file via Address Book: File | Export |
Address Book (WAB); or as a CSV file via Address Book: File | Export |
Address Book (other).

2. After copying the exported file to the desktop of the target machine and
removing any Read Only attribute, import it via Address Book: File | Export
| Address Book (WAB) or Address Book (other), as pertinent.

You'll find that Groups will neither export nor import.  Some find the same
to be true with Folders.

Thanks for the link and info.  I thought sure I had been able to move groups
as well as addresses.  Must have been in another universe.  I'll read the
item you suggested and play around some more... but not today.  Thanks for
the help.  ADKR

I was able to get all the addresses, but not the groups.  I re-created them.
Thanks for your help and suggestions.
