OE defaulted to French Dic - no English available?

A friend of mine with OE installed has the French Dictionary
installed. Unfortunately, she writes in English :-)

I looked in the OE Options but French is the only language available.
What's the best way to get the English dictionary installed on her
system?

Thanks,

She also has Office 2007 installed.

You no longer have spell checking capabilities in some languages in Outlook
Express 6.0 after you install the 2007 Microsoft Office system:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932974

Office 2007 breaks OE's spell check. Downloading a free spell check is the
simplest way around this.

Vampirefo:

TinySpell:
http://www.tinyspell.m6.net/  (Checks the spelling as you type).

Australian English Spell Check
(Also suitable for other English speaking countries.)

If you have a previous version of Office, see this:

Wow... thanks... all I can say is "WTF?".

<rant>
It would be really nice if MS got a clue one day. I guess spending all
that money on a proper patch would have meant Bill Gates would have
had to forgo a new painting for the mansion.

I will look into the alternatives you suggested.

Thanks,

The short version is that the Office Team and the Outlook Express Team let
each other know what they were doing. There hasn't been an Outlook Express
team for about two years now, so Office 2007 mating well with OE never
happened.

See my earlier posts, and still no answer!

I have downloaded Vampire, but its works in Office 2007, but under OE6, the
SPELLING... menu is dimmed.

Please any one give me a hint as to how I can fix this?

John

Sorry, I lost your OP. Remove Vampirefo. Go back to the download site. Close
all other programs and turn off your anti-virus. Click to download and Save
it to your HDD. Close the site and go to where you saved it and install it.
Reboot. Does it work in OE now?

No Bruce, it doesn't. Got me mystified,  I now have XP PRO with SP3, I
wonder if that has anything to do with it?

I will give up and look for my old copy of Office 2003 and re install the
software.

Thanks for trying.

I don't know if SP3 can be at fault or not. It is a release candidate for
testers and should only be used if you don't worry about screwing up your
machine and possibly having to reformat at some point.

I strongly urge people only download beta programs at their own risk. We
were inundated with problems when SP2 was beta and people jumped the gun
downloading it when it was still full of flaws.

You might be able to find out if any of the testers has seen your problem
here.

Actually Bruce, the SP3 was an automatic download from the Microsoft site.

From Microsoft Updates? It isn't available here until the 29th except for
MSDN and TechNet subscribers.

FUD alert!

Automatic Updates offered WinXP SP3 Beta because you opted into being
offered beta software by Windows Update.

WinXP SP3 won't be offered by Windows Update until 29 Apr-08.  Automatic
Updates will begin offering WinXP SP3 in June 2008.

You will have to uninstall WinXP SP3 Beta to be able to install WinXP SP3
final release.

it, It was a surprise to me when I discovered it had downloaded and
installed it.

Let me know what a FUD is please.

Go to Windows Update website | Click on Change Settings (left menu) | Scroll
down to Advanced section and you should find "Show beta products..."
checked.

Robear,
I did as you said, and checked but no it isn't checked, as you wrote:

........."the Scroll down to Advanced section and you should find "Show beta

checked."..........

It certainly isn't checked (or ticked) as I was aware of that trap and made
sure of that.

Its a puzzling one, I definitely didn't opt into being offered Windows Beta
software updates.

Still wanting to know what a "FUD alert!" is??????

Unless you chose to manually install WinXP SP3 Beta at some point in the
past and then uninstalled it, I have no idea why it was offered to the
machine.

Next question is can I delete it? Will it revert back to SP2?

To keep track of things, it helps immensely if you include all of previous
message(s) in your replies to the newsgroup, John.  Thank you.

Uninstalling WinXP SP3 Beta via Add/Remove Programs /should/ return the
machine to WinXP SP2.  If not, you're looking at a format & reinstall (which
is a possibility you accept by default if you install any beta application).

Yeah, I understand. I'm not surprised that they obsoleted the previous
dictionary, or even that that fact was discovered post production
("Gee, uh Larry... before we change the dictionary format, are there
other MS products that use it?")

The incredible part is that they don't even consider it necessary to
produce a patch for the problem.
