All of a sudden, (I can't trace it back to any one particular time) but when
composing a message in OE, the delete key will simply NOT WORK. I have to
back space.
(No, the keyboard is not bad) As well and just as annoying I can not do a
CTRL-C nor a CTRL-V (I can highlight and then and right click everything
though)

Also noticed this -- same problem as above witin IE7 - when in any search
box, info box, anywhere I can input information, I can not use the delete key
or use CTRL-C or V.
Strangly I can do all of this in other apps and browsers *except of OE and
IE7*.

Details: XP Pro, SP2. All updates, patches etc. installed as of today
4/24/08. Even re-installed XP-SP2, all updates and patches -- again. Twice.
Have run virus scans, spyware scans (Adaware, Spybot S&D, HijackThis!,
registry mechanic, Regscrub) CrapCleaner. Defragged HD, Compacted all
folders. Emptied waste basket. Rebooted. 50 times. Even tried a system
restore at several different dates all the way back 3 months worth. System
was unable to restore ANYTHING! D'argh!

I have spent several hours over several days googling and searching
discussion groups about this problem, but to no avail.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

-Mike

Haven't read your post in great detail, but you may find the following useful.
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=2256306
Reading through that post seems to address your issue in detail.
Go to info.co.uk & do a search for "outlook express copy paste problem" for
more sources of information.

Did you do a Repair Install or did you format & reinstall?  Did the problem
exist without IE7 being installed?  What anti-virus application or security
suite is installed?  What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?

Please cite a link to the forum thread where you posted your HijackThis log
for review by an expert in such matters.

Maffysdad & PA Bear - thanks for the replies. I have been chasing my tail on
this one. I thouroughly read the posts from the link and followed many links
and suggestions from there. But again, no joy.

I didn't reinstall the OS, just Service pack 2. As well as re-installing IE
7 and the updates several times. No go.

I ended up uninstalling IE7 and now the problems are gone - for both Outlook
Express and IE (6) I can now delete while composing in Outlook Express as
well as CTRL V & C. Yay! To me, the strange(est) part is the way IE7 was
misbehaving, not allowing any CRTL-C or V, and while in ANY text box, serach
box, input field (for example inside the main google search box) the delete
key was totally non-op. And no CTRL-C or V would would from any webpage
either. <shrug>

I guess I should try installing IE7 "fresh" (as opposed to just
re-installing over an existing install) and see if the problem comes back.

I have been computing since before DOS days and this has been one for the
more exasparating problems I have chased (and not been able to figure out)
Before DOS days you ask? PET, Timex Sinclair (Z80). Commodore 64, TI-99.
And lest ye not foget the IMSAI 8080!

Sounds like you had a bad install of IE7.

Required reading IMHO before installing IE7:

Sandi's Installation Tips <= Steps #1-8, #10 & #11; take note of #12, then
STOP
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install

And I strongly recommend using
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx as the
installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update.

Tip: Save the installer to your desktop, do not Run it.

Make *certain* that you check in at Windows Update immediately after
installing IE7 and install any critical updates offered.  If Optional
Updates category offers Root Certificates update, I recommend installing it
to take full advantage of IE7's additional security.

I guess you have a virus in your Master Boot Record (MBR). I had the same
problem and this virus redirected my bank homepage. Different virus scanner
failed to detect it, e.g. McAfee. Avast was the one to detect the
MBR:\\.\PHYSICALDRIVE0 virus. You have to use the recovery console and fixmbr
or any other tool to set the MBR to standard. The vius also affect ie8 not
ie6. There is no need to reinstall ie7 when the MBR is cleaned.

Good success
