As my wife and I do not get much in the way of email (sad, I know!), I have
set up a single email account which is used by both of us. I have done this
by setting the Store Folder as
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Outlook Express
In this way, the dbx files are not stored in a user specific location and
can be viewed by both users.
This worked initially, with my wife also set up as an administrator user.
Now that I have changed her account to a limited account on Win XP Home SP2,
she is not able to open OE6 as it states that it could not open the store
folder. I would have thought that even as a limited user, she should have
access to the All Users section.
When I set her account back to administrator user, she has full access to
OE6 again.
Is there a way around this so that she can have her limited user and still
have access to her mail?
TIA
Martin

What are the permissions on that folder?

As I have WinXP Home, I do not have a security tab visible on the folder to
tell what the permissions are. What I can say is that (as detailed in the
sharing tab), that the Outlook Express folder in the C:\Documents and
Settings\All Users\Documents\ folder has been coped to the Shared Documents,
so in theory, should be visible to everyone.
Hope this answers your question Jim.

Assuming WinXP, do you have it set up properly? See

PA Bear,
I have already used the details on Kelly's site with great success. However,
as my original post stated, this worked fine while we both had admin
accounts, but with my wife's account set to 'limited', she could not
actually open OE successfully due to a problem with the Store Folder.
Could the fact that I created the folder under my account be causing the
problem due to her, now, lower permissions?

Is her OE pointing to the correct Store Folder?

Frank,
With her account as administrator type, I could see that her message folder
is pointing to the correct folder (in our case C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Documents\Outlook Express).
If I put her account back to Limited type, then OE will not start up and I
get the following error message:
"Outlook Express could not be started. This application was unable to open
the Outlook Express message store. Your computer may be out of memory or the
disk is full. Contact Microsoft support. (0x800C012E,5)"
After that, I get another error message stating:
"Outlook Express could not be started as MSOE.DLL initialised."
With the account back to 'admin' again, it all works fine again.
Does this gives any clues?
Thanks for your help.

When she gets that message it's probably because she doesn't have
permissions for that folder.
