I have recently installed AVG. When I send an email from OUTLOOK EXPRESS, I
get the following error message.
The host 'smtoaugh.centurytel.net' could not be found. Please verify that
you have entered the server name correctly. Account:
'mail.so.centurytel.net', Server: 'smtoaugh.centurytel.net', Protocol: SMTP,
Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11004, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D
The HELP DESK assures me that the email account is set up correctly. I can
send emails from WEBMAIL. HELP!

Look at the error message. Shouldn't smtoaugh be smtpaugh? AKA, a P where
the O is? Check the account settings.
Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer
of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving, and
causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes
and has even been responsible for lose of messages. Your up-to-date A/V
program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:

Note that for some AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the program
and reinstall in Custom Mode and opt out of e-mail scanning when the option
arises.

'nslookup smtoaugh.centurytel.net'
There is no such IP name for a host. Strange that tech support didn't
catch this one unless, of course, you said it correctly when speaking to
them.

You have a couple of typos in the server name
smtoaugh.centurytel.net should be
smtpauth.centurytel.net'
The O should be a P and the G should be a T
Fix in OE at Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, servers.
You'll also need the My Server Requires Authentication checked under
Outgoing server.
