I backed up Vista Business to an external hard disk drive. Vista
Business failed beyond recovery and was
reinstalled on the same desktop.
Vista backup and restore will not restore the data from the external
hdd. I checked the format of the
backup and VHD is indicated.
After some reading installation and recovery using VPC7 was indicated.
VPC7 when opening the backup using the disk wizard only provides this
error "It may be in use by a running virtual machine, the Virtual Disk
Wizard, or you may not have the proper access privileges. Please
select another file."
I am the admin on this desktop and only VPC is running? Rebooting and
repeating the steps produces the
same error.
Suggestions?

Check the security settings on the file and ensure that your user
account (not just the Administrators group) has read / write access to
the file.
