Mouse Pointer doesn't leave the desktop

Hello,

I am unable to get the mouse pointer outside the desktop to grab the scroll
bars. I understand I must hold down right-alt key to get off the desktop but
when I have PowerPoint open I am unable to use the scroll bars to see all of
the application without holding down the alt key. And once I do that then
Imust click back inside the VPC window and use the application again. Is
this how it is supposed to work?

Thank you.

Install the VM Addtions. Click Action-->Install/Update VM Addtions
from the menu on the VM window.

I have installed them and rebooted and no luck. I can only get to the
horizontal and vertical scroll bars, as well as the menu bar at the top with
Action, Edit, etc., if I do alt-enter. This seems like something is wrong
because with it like this I am also unable to scroll left-right or up-down
in my applications, which makes it very difficult to use them.

Thank you.

Do you have the resolution of the VM higher than the resolution of the
host?

Nope, the resolution is the same in VM and host.

well, there's the isse, if you're at the same resolution, then you'll
have scroll bars outside the VM, for the best results, either go
fullscreen or reduce the resolution of the VM to less than the hosts.

Thanks. I did try changing the resolution but I was still unable to grab the
scroll bars or even go to the menu bar (Action, Edit, etc.) without
Alt-Enter. Full screen works nicely so I can live with it. Maybe it has
something to do with having 3 monitors and running UltraMon. I will check on
that forum and see if anyone has this problem.

My bigger issue right now is drag and drop and I hope you can give me a
hand. I have tried:

1. combinations of dragging files and folders across monitors from Windows
Explorer and the desktop on my physical computer to Windows Explorer and the
desktop on the virtual. No luck.

2. The same as above but putting the physical and virtual windows on the
same monitor and dragging. No luck again.

All I get when I left-click the folder or file I want to move is a little
circle with a line but no drag or drop.  I even tried with the resolution
change you suggested but no luck. I am obviously doing something wrong. What
is the technique for dragging and dropping?

Thanks very much.

Virtual PC doesn't work like that.

Example; you have a word doc on the desktop of your host pc and you want to
copy it to the virtual pc. You can't drag it from the host desktop and onto
the window showing your virtual pc desktop. Pretend that virtual pc is like a
switch-box. It allows you to switch between multiple running pcs but they are
only connected in ways real pcs would be.

So to transfer files you can either create network shares and browse to them
(\\host\shared) or you can create a shared folder using the VMadditions.

Hope this helps,

Actually - you should be able to do just this.

Yes it does.

If you've got the VM Additions installed on a Windows VM you can drag
and drop files from the host to the guest and vice-versa.

Wrong, VPC works *exactly* like that!
But this ability does not show up until you:
1) Install the Virtual Machine additions in the guest
2) Restart your host system (and the guest)

Step 2 is said not to be needed always but in my experience it is...

>Example; you have a word doc on the desktop of your host pc and you want to
>copy it to the virtual pc. You can't drag it from the host desktop and onto
>the window showing your virtual pc desktop.

Yes, you can....

With the exception of drag-drop from the host of course (with VMA
installed).
