Hello, I am getting the following error while attempting to run WarPath
(http://www.skillground.com) inside Virtual PC 2007, running XP inside of
Vista. Other games are having difficulty starting as well.
We need to do this, to test software across multiple operation systems.
Can anyone help to make this work?

Virtual PC's video card doesn't support D3d.

The XP virtual machine does not use the hardware in the physical computer.
A vm uses emulated hardware devices that cannot be changed and may not
support your software. In particular, a vm uses an emulated S3Trio graphics
adaptor with 8mb of video ram and 2D graphics only.

This night it went into me -trying to install Win98 on a VM2007
with XP as a host - that, a VM is not fast enough running games
-even if not restricted by the other mentioned . My intention was
to use it for Acad14, which will not run properly on my
XP machine -since installed sp2 and raised PC-memory.
I got my 22" LCD spoiled. It will not take
up full screen in horisontal direction anymore.
I'm finished working with virtuel machines!.
Installing it doesn´t work right too.
At the present stage of the art, virtuel machines is nothing
more than toys.

Sen:
I am not into gaming, but for most other purposes virtual machines run very well.
I have a 22 inch monitor (1680x1050) also. I run all my VM's in full screen mode
at 1600x1024 resolution and they work fine. You can hardly tell that you are not
using the whole display.

I´m using a Fjitsu/Siemens with 2 channels, the one coupled to my XP,
the other coupled to my Vista. This share has worked without problems
in about one year. The solution is always set to 1680x1050.
When leaveded the experiments to night with the Vmachine,
went right to the Vista to look the NewsGroup. Starting the
Vista the screen showed up with about a 2 inch wide horizontal
shrinkage. The Auto creen-corection wont work anymore,
and I can´t manually ajust it. Has lowered the solution to
1360x768 to get a full sceen. Aware of, this breakdown could
be a time coincidence related to something else.
-Have my doubt!.

According to the system requirements at
http://www1.skillground.com/help/installing.html#4
you will not be able to play in a virtual machine because the game requires
a 3D graphics card. The S3Trio emulated graphics card provided by VPC is
only a 2D card. The graphics card on the host is not used by the game when
it is running in a guest.

this isn't a solution but, i'm also having this kind of problem im running on a vista and im trying to play splinter cell pandora tomorrow
and it displays this message:
GetDeviceCaps failed(D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE) on adapter 0.
History: GetDeviceCaps <- UD3DRenderDevice::Init <- UGameEngine::Init <- InitEngine
the thing is ive played the game on this computer, but i had to restore the whole computer and now it's lost all it's updates, etc.
so does anyone know what drivers, etc. are needed for this message???
