If my virtual pc is corrupt ,and I donot have a backup for the virtual pc or
my virtual pc has a important file inside it, how can I recover this virtual
PC?

What do you mean by corrupt?  What error message are you getting?  What is
the guest operating system?  Host operating system?  How about giving some
details about your set up?

A very good program for extracting files from a virtual hard drive file is
http://www.winimage.com/winimage.htm.

Have you tried the Windows Server 2003 cd that you used for the
installation?

You still didn't say what file was corrupt.

I have a similar problem, a pair of days ago I was working on the Virtual PC
doing some stuff with Minitab, then I had to leave so I did as usual, I just
quit the program, closed my laptop and hit the road. The problem came when
later I open the laptop and realized than the program had closed but then
when I tried to open it again it showed me a window of a virtual machine
trying to start but at the MS-DOS startup a message came than said than "I
didn't specify any boot disk" and the Virtual PC list was empty. The PC file
is still at the same place but the program will not open it, it keeps saying
than I have to choose a virtual machine file, I opened the Windows.vp7's
"package" file and see than the virtual machine file had a different name
(used to be disk1), so i change the name back and nothing happened, then i
created an other virtual machine and choose the file when trying to open
Windows and nothing. So now I don't know what to do, I have important
documents there and I can't get'hem back, I've already tried the "Data
migrate" utility and didn't work out, please HELP !!!!!!!

You need to post to microsoft.public.mac.virtualpc.  This ng is for users of
VPC for Windows computers.

I have a similar problem to these. I have XP on the VPC and Vista on the main
operating system. Yesterday i ran a full system virus scan (on Vista) because
i was having adware alerts. When it finished there were 3 problems. One
seemed to be a folder on the VPC I cant remember exactly but it ended with
vhp or something????. And i deleted it....The other 2 were system files of
somesort  kernal32.dll and wsock32.dll they are still sitting in the chest
but will not restore without errors..... Anyway Now the Virtual PC will not
open. When i click start it opens thens closes its self down and will not
load.... I hope someone can help me. Lorie

You should not have deleted the "vhp" file.  That was likely the vhd file
and was a false positive report by the AV software.  See if you can find the
file in the AV software's chest and restore it.  Otherwise, you need to
restore the copy you made for backup.

Thanks for you reply Colin, yes i thought as such and no it isnt in the
chest i deleted it thinking that my VPC had been compromised. I installed the
VPC to run my 2004 version of Quickbooks for my business and the only backups
i made are that of my Quickbooks files (not the VPC)

Then you should be OK creating a new vm and reimporting your data files.

Thanks. I dont think i can be bothered. I might just bite the bullet and pay
for the upgrade to Quickbooks that will work on Vista....
There was stuff on the VPC that i didnt backup, So you dont think there is
any way to get it back up and running....?? Im really annoyed with myself. I
should know better than deleting things when im tired.... Stupid me!

You'll have to look at the help files for your AV to see if it can be done.
