I have a computer running WinXP Pro x64 and I was trying to install the VPC
so I could run some software that x64 does not support. I have a Win XP Pro
CD but it is a copy as my kids have destroyed the originals and I have a XP
SP1 CD which is original MS CD. I have tried to use the "Capture ISO.."
option as well as the "Use Physical Drive X:" and I still cannot get VPC to
recognize or install from the CDs. I keep getting the "Reboot and Select
proper Boot..." message. The CD read lights up when the VPC starts up but
does not stay on and VPC still does not recognize it.

How do I install onto the virtual machine?

Are you absolutely certain that this copy CD is actually bootable?

If you reboot your host machine while the CD is in the drive, does it boot
from it and ask you if you want to proceed with the installation process...?

Thanks Mark, my CD was not bootable. After borrowing a bootable copy from a
colleague I was able to install Win XP Pro 32.

I have another question though, can I/how do I change the resolution of vpc?
I cannot go beyond 1024x768 (32 bit color), and my host monitor is set at
1280x1024 and I would like to use this setting as I am using vpc to vpn ( not
x64 compatible ) to a remote computer also running 1280x1024.

You are trying to capture a physical cd with the Capture .iso function.  The
cd is not an .iso file.  You need to put the cd in the physical drive and
then capture the drive with the running virtual machine's emulated cd drive.
After that go to the Action Menu on the virtual machine console and select
reset.  The vm should start Setup on the cd.

Thanks for your advice, but I did create an iso of my drive and then tried to
use the "capture iso..." menu item, but as I stated above my CD was not
bootable, after borrowing a bootable copy from a colleague I was able to
install using the physical CD drive.
