Task manager in Vista?

How do I get Task Manager to start in Vista on virtual PC?  I know how in
VMWare Workstation. .. well, I know how for XP. I can't recall if I tried to
start Task Manager in Vista when I had it for a few days on VMWare.  Or, is
there no Task Manager in Vista? (Thank god I got Vista finally looking
pretty much like XP. I got tree view back for Explorer and got rid all the
gigantic, hideous icons that Vista weirdly has penchant for. They are all
tiny now like they should be).  I still have junk that is Vista like (all
the stupid questions in left column...I hated that in XP and turned Classic
view on and imported from W2000 also to stop the dumb stuff) that I want to
get rid of but Vista is better now that it has a fully classic view.

The easiest way is to right click on the task bar and pick "Task
Manager" from the menu. (just like XP)

You can also use <host key>-<Del> to bring up the logoff/reboot/task
manager screen.

Thank you. I discovered that I could get to it via right clicking on task
manager earlier today.

I never knew you could get Task Manager that way in XP. I have always done
C/A/D to reach it. But when I tried that in Vista nothing happened.  How
come Control/Alt/Delete was abandoned in Vista? I even tried C/A/Insert
which is what brings up Task Manager in XP in VMWare Workstation machines.

Delete is the host key in Vista? I'll have to try that.

Problem here is that the Ctrl-Alt-Del key combination in a VPC VM involves
replacing the Ctrl-Alt part with the VPC hostkey. However, as you've
assigned <Del> as your hostkey, this isn't going to work because you can't
press the <Del> key while you're already holding down the <Del> key...
Simply reassign the hostkey to something else e.g. <AltGr> aka the Right Alt
key on some keyboards, and it will work again...

Alternatively, while running Vista in a VM, drop down the Action menu and
take it from there...

What is this "host key"?  I know that Right alt plus Enter is supposed to
get you full screen (doesn't much of the time).

I haven't assigned anything as the "host" key. Some one earlier in this
thread said that the "host" key, whatever that is, happens to be the
"delete" key.  So, I don't see why holding down the left Ctrl and left Alt
keys with the delete key would not bring up task manager. The right Alt key
plus Enter is assigned to full screen but the left alt key is not assigned
to anything and I didn't assign the delete key to be whatever this "host"
key is.  Is all this host key does is bring up that screen about locking the
computer, etc?  I think it odd that task manager is listed there.  I would
never need anything on that screen except Task Manager.  Plus, that is an
extra step to get to task manager, so the quickest way is right click on the
taskbar like you said.

That is funny. I use the Full Screen option there all the time as Right
Alt+Enter doesn't work well (although it works fine to get out of full
screen...just doesn't work right to get into full screen). Anyhow, I use
that but never noticed c/a/d under it and over on the right the keys to use.
Duh.

In which case, your virtual machine's host key will be the default host key
i.e. AltGr, aka Right-Alt on some keyboards...

That would only be the case if you changed the host key yourself...

Because Ctrl-Alt-Del is a "special" key combination which is not processed
by virtual machines...

As you've described it, right Alt *is* the host key.

From within a virtual machine, hold down the right-Alt key and press <Del> -
what happens...?

It's still there, but it acts slightly different than XP.  To send a
<Cntrl>-<Alt>-<Del> to a VM, you have to press <Host>-<Del>  where the
host key defaults to <Right Alt>
