It seems DVD access is extremely under Vista 32 guest running under XP
32 host. Vista itself seems to run fine but installation of Office
2007 from DVD takes FOREVER. I use VPC 2007. VPC additions are
installed (I used additions that come with VPC 2007)

Any ideas? Maybe I need to use different VPC additions?

You would be way better off by first creating an ISO image of the
install DVD and then capturing that ISO file with the guest optical
drive (you can drag-drop the ISO file to the CD icon in the bottom of
the guest window).
Then the guest will have a MUCH better reading speed!
You can use WinImage (shareware) to make the ISO file.

Have you installed VPC2007 SP1? THis was recently released to support
new service packs on both Windows hosts and guests.

And afterwards be sure to update the virtual machine additions in the guest.
